Not so boring

In her July 3 "In the wings" column, Orla Swift commented that American Dance Festival director Charles Reinhart's speech at an award ceremony for Laura Dean referred to "a recollection of his initial boredom when he watched Dean's first ADF-commissioned work in 1974." The director's comments were taken out of context.

The reference to boredom was followed by commentary completely positive in connotation. What followed the phrase "a bit boring" was "... but look at the way they move together differently. Hmmm, interesting. Details caught my attention, repetition brought me an inner connectedness and appreciation, a meditative calm." The juxtaposition of Reinhart's comments was intended to emphasize the deep level of complexity behind Dean's work, too commonly overlooked by newcomers.
