Lovely travelers

I was born in Charleston, S.C., 82 years ago. When I grew up there, we had a crape myrtle tree in our yard that was along the driveway. Next to the tree was a three-story home. The tree had to search for the sun. It did and found it. It was the tallest crape myrtle I ever saw!

Now I live in North Carolina. I moved here in 1970 to attend college and stayed. So, like the crape myrtle, I am an immigrant. The tree came here from China; my trip was not as long.

Each year at this time, I cherish the dear tree. It's the hot time of the summer, and the loveliest thing in bloom is the tree. It delights me. Immigrants are great.
