Exclusion

Your two editorials Aug. 16 [on community college policies toward illegal immigrants and on Carl Sandburg] had a connection. If one views a taped interview at the Carl Sandburg home in Flat Rock between Sandburg and broadcast journalist Ed Murrow, you will hear Sandburg share the most offensive word in English: exclude.

Apparently our political and educational leaders are taking this position in prohibiting children of illegal aliens from attending community colleges. I wonder how many of them had the opportunity to vote on where their parents were going to live? Is this the American way, to discourage our youth from becoming informed residents in our democracy?

It appears our leaders have way too much energy on closing doors to the least of these.

Is this about politics, politics in education or doing the right thing?
