The important role of Franklin Regional Medical Center

Regarding your April 25 article "Two crises disrupt Louisburg's pulse":

Franklin Regional Medical Center is committed to serving all of Franklin County. Its staff is committed to rural health-care service and dedicated to improving the care of all of our patients.

In fact, in the past five years, our staff has provided $51 million in uncompensated care to our uninsured and underinsured neighbors.

All Franklin County residents should have access to affordable and high-quality care. That is why we proposed to partner with Rex Healthcare, which is recognized for having one of the best charity care policies in the state. A modern hospital in Youngsville, a new urgent care facility in Louisburg, a new physician clinic in eastern Franklin County and additional investment in area transit services to all of these facilities equals greater access for the uninsured, not less.

We are also partnering with Novant Health, a nonprofit health system with a reputation for serving the uninsured and providing community outreach to neighborhoods and residents who need better access to care.

We know there is a need for health-care access in our state, and we have an important role to play in providing services to those who cannot afford to pay. We are and always will be a part of the solution.
