I am embarrassed to be an N&O subscriber after reading the "Ghost hunters" piece July 12. I cannot believe that you dedicated a Triangle & Co. section-front story to this topic.
Your article referred to these ghost-hunters as "a movement led by skeptics," yet you later explained that a belief in ghosts is a pre-requisite to joining the team. Huh? I don't fault the group for its beliefs. I do fault The N&O for covering this nonsense.
The references to high-tech tools were reported without the slightest question to their actual function. If "ghosts" could be detected by electronic gadgets, I would think that funeral homes would pay to tap into this "technology" and CSI detectives would be negligent to ignore it. Right?
Without the slightest sense of irony, you mentioned that the "Ghost Hunters" TV show airs on the Sci-Fi channel. There's a good reason for that. These paranormal claims have as much basis in reality as "Battlestar Galactica." Both may be entertaining. Both are fiction.
Next time, cover ghosts in the Life, etc., section, with reports on the latest Harry Potter conventions. Don't lend legitimacy to this rubbish and lower The N&O to the level of tabloid journalism.
