HALIFAX - Charges have been dropped against four men accused in the shotgun killing of another man in Roanoke Rapids this year.

The Daily and Sunday Herald of Roanoke Rapids reported that a judge dropped murder charges against Charles Hockaday, Damien Mitchell and Trayvon Purnell.

Court officials say charges also have been dropped against Robbie Jones Jr.

All four men were arrested in the April killing of Jerry Yellorday, 29.

Police say he was shot by two men while he sat in a car.

Halifax County Sheriff's Maj. Bruce Temple says the investigation into the killing continues, but he would not say if his office still considers the four men suspects.
