Scott Riddle threw two touchdown passes, including the winner in the third quarter, to help lead Elon to a 27-23 victory against The Citadel on Saturday in Charleston, S.C.

Riddle completed 18 of 32 passes for 237 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Phoenix (6-1, 4-0 Southern Conference). Brandon Newsome added 134 yards on 14 carries.

Bart Blanchard completed 21 of 35 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns for the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2).

After Sam Keeler's 29-yard field goal opened the scoring for the Bulldogs in the first, Riddle hit Terrell Hudgins on a 70-yard touchdown pass to give the Phoenix a 7-3 lead to end the quarter.

Blanchard threw one 4-yard touchdown score each to Andre Roberts and Taylor Cornett to make it 16-7 midway through the second, and Elon's Andrew Wilcox hit field goals of 23 and 34 yards to make it 16-13 at halftime.

The teams traded scores to open the third quarter as Elon's A.J. Harris rushed for an 11-yard touchdown and The Citadel's Blanchard threw his third touchdown, a 29-yard pass to Roberts, to give the Bulldogs a 23-20 lead halfway through the third.

But Riddle hit Bo Williams for a 10-yard touchdown pass at 5:53 in the third to put Elon ahead for good at 27-23.

ALSO SATURDAY

FURMAN 28, WESTERN CAROLINA 21: Mike Brown ran for two touchdowns to lead Furman over Western Carolina in Greenville, S.C.

Brown ran for 122 yards and two scores on 16 carries for the Paladins (5-2, 2-1 Southern Conference).

Zach Jaynes completed 33 of 48 passes for 302 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He added 36 yards rushing on nine carries and a touchdown for the Catamounts (2-5, 0-3).

MORGAN STATE 41, N.C. A&T 3: Devan James rushed for 103 yards, and Mario Melton added 97 yards on the ground to lead Morgan State to a 41-3 victory over N.C. A&T.

The Bears (3-3, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led 10-3 at halftime, but James and Melton each scored to lead a 24-point third-quarter outburst and pull away from the Aggies (2-5, 0-3).

VALPARAISO 35, DAVIDSON 29: Jake Riedel scored from 2 yards out in overtime and Anthony Curry intercepted a Davidson pass, his second pick of the game, on the Wildcats' possession as host Valparaiso came from 18 points down for a victory.

Ross Wiemer had 170 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns, including scoring runs of 49 and 17 yards in the fourth quarter, as the Crusaders (2-3, 1-1 Pioneer) rallied from a 21-3 second quarter deficit to beat the Wildcats (2-3, 1-2).
