DURHAM - Kenneth E. Barnes, principal of Shepard Middle School, will move to Southern High School next year. He will replace Rod Teal, who will take the principal job at Fayetteville Street Elementary School, replacing Queen Bass Scarborough, the retiring principal.

Barnes has been principal of Shepard since 2005. He was recently named the N.C. Middle School Association's Region 3 Administrator of the Year. Last year, Shepard was named a School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.
