JOIN FAMILIES FOR A COMMUNITY DAY: A community day with the theme "A Family that Plays Together, Stays Together" will be held Saturday at the East Durham Community Center, 2615 Harvard Ave. It will include food, games, entertainment and activities such as a spades tournament, family kickball tournament, free books for children, information booths and live music. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 560-4278.

HELP PRESERVE OUR MILITARY HISTORY: Members of the Raleigh Elks Lodge No. 735 and representatives of the National Veterans Freedom Park will interview veterans Saturday for the Veterans History Day project. The project is sponsored by the American Folklore Center at the Library of Congress. The lodge is helping collect and preserve audio and video oral histories, along with documentary materials such as letters, diaries, maps, photographs, and home movies of veterans and those who served in support of them. Interviews will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the lodge, 5538 Lead Mine Road in Raleigh. Interviews are open to veterans of all military services and the Merchant Marine in war or peacetime. TAKE STEPS TOWARD BETTER HEALTH: The YWCA of the Greater Triangle will mark Women's Health Week from Monday through May 17 with programs and activities designed to encourage women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier and happier life. Free activities will be held every day and will include yoga classes, lectures and fitness classes. YWCA membership is not required. For more information, visit the Y at 554 E.
