DURHAM - Durham police hope the public will come forward with information about a shooting Monday in the McDougald Terrace housing community, where a bullet grazed the neck of a woman as she was getting out of her car.

The woman, 43, was taken to Duke Hospital after the 1 p.m. incident on Wabash Street, police said. Investigators do not think she was the intended target.

Some witnesses told police that men in a silver or gray fourdoor car with a loud muffler exchanged gunfire with the occupants of a blue vehicle similar to a Nissan Altima.

Police ask anyone with information to call Investigator H.J. Burwell III at 560-4415, ext. 234. or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests. Callers do not have to identify themselves.
