RECOGNITION FOR PROGRAM THAT HELPS MENTALLY ILL GET HOMES: The National Alliance on Mental Illness will give the Philip and Sarah Francoeur Award to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services and the N.C. Housing Finance Agency in June at the alliance's national conference in Orlando, Fla. The award goes to efforts to expand access to decent, safe and affordable housing for people with mental illness. This year, it is recognizing the work of the partnership between the two state agencies with Targeting Program, which sets aside 10 percent of the units in every property developed under the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program for people with disabilities. The 3 p.m. concert will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. Robinson spent 27 years as principal oboe for the New York Philharmonic and serves as artist-in-residence at Duke University each spring. The orchestra was formed in 1982. For more information, visit

CARY STUDENT GETS SCHOLARSHIP TO SPEND SUMMER IN FINLAND: Kristine Hull of Cary is one of 14 recipients of a scholarship to live and study in Finland for the summer. She is a student at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh. Hull will depart for Helsinki on June 25 to live with a volunteer host family and attend high school through the Finland-US Senate Youth Exchange scholarship, administered through Youth for Understanding USA. The exchange is supported financially by the government of Finland.
