RALEIGH - Triangle Transit announced Monday that bus ridership in June hit an all-time high with 97,172 people getting on board, an increase of 30 percent over June 2007.

Triangle Transit chairman Sig Hutchinson said the escalating cost of gasoline is partly responsible for the increase in riders, along with additional routes such as the new bus line that started Monday connecting Wake Forest to Triangle Town Center and downtown Raleigh.

June marks the third consecutive month of increased ridership. April posted a 20.5 percent increase over April 2007 and May saw a 14.5 percent increase over the previous May.
