CHESS TOURNAMENT COMING

The Raleigh Chess Academy will hold its Scholastic Chess Tournament from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Falls River Town Center, 10930 Raven Ridge Road, Suite 105, Raleigh. The tournament is for ages 17 and younger. Cost is $25, or $20 for those who register a week in advance. The academy is made up of chess enthusiasts who teach children how to play. PUBLIC MEETING SET ON ROAD UPGRADES

The City of Raleigh will hold a public meeting Thursday on planned improvements to Falls of Neuse Road from Raven Ridge Road to New Falls of Neuse Road. The meeting will be in Campbell Lodge at Durant Nature Park, 8305 Camp Durant Road. City officials and the project consultant will be available from 7 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss preliminary design mapping and answer questions. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. with a short presentation explaining the results of corridor studies, and a discussion on the preliminary design of the project.

Plans call for realigning Falls of Neuse Road from Fonville Road to New Falls of Neuse Road, and to widen Falls of Neuse Road from Raven Ridge Road to Fonville Road. For more information about the meeting, contact Sylvester Percival with the City's Public Works Department at 890-3030.
