Schools get grant for bus retrofit

DURHAM - Durham County schools have been awarded a $125,600 state grant to retrofit school buses with diesel emissions control devices.

The grant announced Monday was among $800,390 awarded by the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources for 16 projects aimed at reducing air pollution from motor vehicles.

Other Triangle projects awarded grant money:

* Leisure Landscapes in Wake County was awarded $8,200 to convert commercial lawn mowers to propane.

* Piedmont Biofuels in Chatham County was awarded $37,700 to purchase a vacuum truck for collecting oil from area businesses.

* The Triangle Transit Authority received $4,356 to retrofit buses with diesel emissions control devices.
