Helping out

GIVE UP A LUXURY TO HELP BURN VICTIMS IN BOLIVIA: You can help raise money to assist burn victims in Bolivia by giving up a luxury item and donating the money you save to a nonprofit set up by Will Bynum of Raleigh, a medical student at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and two of his fellow students. The nonprofit, called Medical Students for Burn Center Viedma, is trying to raise $10,000 for the Viedma Hospital Children's Burn Center in Cochabamba, Bolivia. It is asking participants to give up items -- such as a manicure, a trip to the movies, new shoes -- and donate the money online at www.firstgiving.org/msforbcv. The money will buy blankets, stuffed animals, toys, educational tools and games for children at the hospital. Bynum started the nonprofit last year with two other medical students, Daniel Eggart of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jonathan Hilshelwood of Florence, S.C. For more information, go to www.ms4bcv.org.
