Stereotypes exposed

I was disappointed by the Aug. 23 article "Speech to shine spotlight on Michelle Obama," which failed to move beyond the mean-spirited stereotype of angry black woman. The plethora of racist remarks that originated with biased news services like Fox move our country backward and unfortunately gain power when repeated by subsequent features (like McClatchy's) without being clarified as racism.

What about the well-founded idea of black women as uniquely strong, resourceful and insightful? Where are the unfairly critical stories on Cindy McCain -- or is she too nice, white and bland to be remarked upon?
