LONGMONT, COLO. - Another 265 jobs will be eliminated at the Butterball turkey plant in Longmont, bringing the total number of positions cut by the North Carolina-based company to about 490 since June.

Butterball executives announced the latest cuts Monday, blaming ethanol demand for driving up the cost of corn, soybean meal and other feed ingredients.

Butterball recently relocated its corporate headquarters to Garner, where it employs about 60 people. The company also employs 2,400 at a plant in Mount Olive. "Hopefully, we will not have to make any cuts [in North Carolina] at this time. We don't have that on the drawing board," Butterball CEO Keith Shoemaker said Tuesday.
