LOUISBURG -- Federal officials said Tuesday that Franklin County's only hospital is no longer at risk of losing federal money for treating elderly and indigent patients.

Franklin Regional Medical Center corrected problems related to pharmaceutical and respiratory services uncovered in May by federal investigators, said Lee Millman, spokeswoman for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The threat from CMS to pull funding is the second time in three months that the hospital was at risk for losing federal funding.

The first threat to pull federal funding came after a 76-year-old man died after checking into the hospital for elective knee surgery in December.
