Regarding the June 11 article "Groups lobby to end ban on collective bargaining":
It is shocking that North Carolina and Virginia persist in denying basic rights to public workers. Someone should tell our North Carolina legislators that government employees deserve the same rights that Wal-Mart workers enjoy. Police and firefighters put their lives on the line every day and are prohibited from collective bargaining. Teachers are in the same boat.
When I had a serious illness last year, after 14 years of working for North Carolina, I needed more time to recover and was refused. A reasonable employer would not want to make life so difficult for a person with breast cancer.
