Drilling is no answer

In the July 15 article "Bush approves offshore oil rigs," the Interior Department estimated there could be up to 19 billion barrels of oil available in offshore reserves that are off-limits to oil companies today. It also pointed out that this equals 2.5 years of domestic consumption based on current consumption rates and that it could take seven to 10 years to retrieve this oil. Seven to 10 years for 2.5 years of oil? Does this make sense? Does it sound like this will help lower the cost of a gallon of gasoline today or 10 years from now? It certainly isn't thinking long-term.

We need real answers, and we need leadership in Washington to help us shake off our oil addiction. Offshore drilling is not the answer.
