Addington joins Penske, will work with Kurt Busch

At least Steve Addington is already familiar with the family.

Addington, who won 12 Sprint Cup races with driver Kyle Busch, has been named the new crew chief for the driver's older brother, Kurt Busch, and the No. 2 Dodge team at Penske Racing.

“Steve Addington has a proven track record of success in NASCAR and we are excited to welcome him to Penske Racing,” said team owner Roger Penske.

Driver Kyle Busch ran 86 races in NASCAR’s three national series this season and will likely do almost as many in 2010.

He runs in the Cup and Nationwide series for Joe Gibbs Racing and since 2005 has been running partial schedules in Trucks with Billy Ballew Motorsports.

So what would possess him on top of all that to become a NASCAR team owner as well?

There is no Sprint Cup Series championship in the cards for Kyle Busch this season, but he still has the opportunity to win his first NASCAR championship.

Entering Friday night's Dollar General 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Busch holds a 155-point advantage over Carl Edwards in the Nationwide Series standings.

Busch, 24, would need to hold off Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski over the final five races to secure the championship, which would be his first in NASCAR’s three national series.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. Kyle Busch won his first NASCAR championship in the style to which he has become accustomed in the Nationwide Series, with a victory.

In winning Saturday’s Ford 300 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway which he effectively clinched by starting the event Busch equaled Sam Ard, who in 1983 became the first to win the championship and the season finale.

Saturday’s win was another in a long line of dominant performances in 2009.
