Patrick Sheltra was leading the way in Sunday afternoon's ARCA testing at Daytona International Speedway and the Dodge driver has lurked near the top of the speed charts all weekend.

Midway through the final afternoon of preseason testing for Automobile Racing Club of America cars at the 2.5-mile speedway, Sheltra was credited with a lap at 183.016 mph, according to ARCAracing.com .

After a rain-hampered Friday, teams have had a dry track and temperatures near 60 degrees Saturday and Sunday.

Lofton wins ARCA title, Kligerman the race

ARCA rookie standout Parker Kligerman led the most laps and won Sunday's season finale at Rockingham Speedway, but it wasn't enough to deny Justin Lofton the series title.

Lofton, who entered Sunday's event at the longtime N.C. venue as the points leader, finished third. That was five points ahead of Kligerman and good enough. Kligerman came into Rockingham second.

"I really wanted to win this race," said Lofton. "It would have meant a lot to me to win this race, but to be crowned the champion at the Rock means even more."

Danica Patrick won't be the only woman with IndyCar experience taking part in ARCA testing at Daytona International Speedway next week.

On Friday, Braun Racing announced that it would field a car for driver Milka Duno the Automobile Racing Club of America series' Dec. 18-20 session.

"I just completed my third season in IndyCar and this year I decided not to once again pass on an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a stock car," said Duno, a former model from Venezuela who has also worked as a naval engineer.'

Rain returns, halts Friday's testing

The rain is back and cars including the one occupied by Danica Patrick are pulling off the track as Friday's ARCA testing has been interrupted at Daytona International Speedway.

Teams were able to briefly work on single-car runs after foul weather delayed on-track action until early Friday afternoon. The sun had started burning through the drizzle at the 2.5-mile speedway albeit briefly about noon.

More rain is forecast Friday, the first of three partial days of Automobile Racing Club of American testing.

Patrick given green light for Daytona Nationwide race

IndyCar series star Danica Patrick will continue to be in the spotlight during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.

Patrick announced on Monday she will make her Nationwide Series debut in Saturday's DRIVE4COPD 300 season-opener at Daytona. She originally was scheduled to make her series debut in the February 20 race at California, but after an impressive performance in the ARCA event over the weekend at Daytona, her foray in NASCAR's second-tier circuit has been bumped up one week.

"Racing in the Nationwide Series race was my goal during this entire two-month preparation process, but we wanted to make sure it was the right thing to do," Patrick said in a statement. "The ARCA race was a blast, and I'm not ready for my first Daytona Speedweeks to end just yet. I want more racing."
