Franchitti wins Iowa Corn 250

Dario Franchitti was disappointed that Saturday's qualifying for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 was canceled. He felt that a few late tweaks made to his No. 10 car had turned it into a "rocket ship."

Franchitti settled instead for Sunday's checkered flag -- his second victory in two tries at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

Franchitti took the lead with 50 laps to go and cruised to victory in the Iowa Corn Indy 250. Franchitti beat Ryan Briscoe by just over five seconds to grab his first victory since the Streets of Long Beach in April and move into second place in the IRL standings.

Franchitti dominates Infineon

Dario Franchitti finally won at Infineon Raceway, leading from start to finish to capture his first IRL Sonoma Grand Prix on Sunday in the final road course race of the year.

Franchitti took the pole and led all 75 laps, topping runner-up and new points leader Ryan Briscoe on the way to his fourth victory of the year. Franchitti and Briscoe avoided a multiple-car crash early in Lap 1 on the tough 12-turn, 2.303-mile road course. Scott Dixon, the points leader coming in and Franchitti's teammate with Target Chip Ganassi Racing, finished a disappointing 13th after stalling in the wreck. He fell into third place in the points race.

At least seven cars crashed in an accident heading into Turn 2 of the race, including '07 Sonoma champion Dixon after he started 10th.

Wreck opens door for Joey Logano

FONTANA, Calif. Revenge was sweet for Joey Logano, but apparently not enough for his dad.

Run into the wall by Greg Biffle early in Saturday’s Copart 300, Logano stayed just good enough to still be in the hunt when chaos erupted in the final 20 laps.

When the smoke cleared, and the cars of two former race leaders were taken to the garage, Logano came away with the unlikely victory at Auto Club Speedway. It’s his second consecutive Nationwide Series win and fifth of the season.

Dixon notches 20th victory

Scott Dixon didn't start racing IndyCars to set records.

They keep falling anyway.

Dixon became IndyCar's career leader in victories with a commanding performance in the Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on Sunday in Lexington, Ohio. The win was the 20th of Dixon's career, breaking a tie with former series star Sam Hornish Jr.

What the record book will never show is whether he was also the luckiest.

In the lead with just a handful of laps remaining before he would take his turn down pit road to get fuel to make it to the finish, rain halted Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
