Roush Fenway Racing is the first team to violate NASCAR's sealed engine rule in the Nationwide Series.

Roush's No. 16 Nationwide team removed a seal from an engine without authorization from NASCAR resulting in several penalties issued Wednesday.

Crew chief Eddie Pardue was fined $30,000, team owner Jack Roush was penalized 100 car owner points and driver Matt Kenseth was docked 100 driver points for the violation.

Engines of all race winners' cars are inspected after a race and sealed if the engine will be used in a future race. Teams cannot go more than three consecutive races without using a sealed engine.

In this instance, NASCAR officials said the engine in Roush's No. 16 car used to win the race at Darlington in May was sealed. It was used again at Nashville and sealed again. Roush Yates Engines then mistakenly took the engine apart and broke the seal and then notified NASCAR of its mistake.
