Griese suspended for remark about Montoya

BUFFALO, N.Y. - ESPN college football TV analyst Bob Griese has been suspended for one game for using a racially insensitive comment toward NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya, network officials confirmed on Monday.

During the broadcast of Saturday's Minnesota-Ohio State football game and after ESPN ran a promo for last Sunday's race, pictures were displayed of the top five drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings.

"Where's Juan Pablo Montoya?" announcer Chris Spielman asked of the Colombian-born driver who fell out of the top-five last weekend.

Peters earns 1st victory

Timothy Peters took the lead when Denny Hamlin pitted on the 117th lap Saturday and won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

It is the first career victory for Peters, from Danville, Va.

Peters stopped only once in the 200-lap race, after just 33 laps, and led the final 84 laps, holding off runner-up Todd Bodine over three restarts to win by 1.815 seconds.

Montoya, Stewart trade paint

Juan Pablo Montoya and Tony Stewart could have used a referee.

The final two races of the NASCAR season were more like a throwback to the good ol' boys who settled their feuds on the track.

Montoya and Stewart became tangled in separate blatant acts of retaliation in the Sprint Cup finale Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Stewart temporarily sent Montoya to the garage; NASCAR kept Montoya parked on pit road.

Montoya would caution Patrick about multi-tasking

FONTANA, Calif. Juan Pablo Montoya has some advice for Danica Patrick: Don’t drive in both the IndyCar and NASCAR series at the same time.

“I wouldn’t be driving both cars, to be honest,” said Montoya, a former Formula One driver and Indianapolis 500 winner who is now third in points in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.

“I wouldn’t do it because they drive so different. You’re going to get comfortable in one thing and then you’re going to make it to the other thing, and every time it’s going to be like night and day.”

NASCAR star Gordon getting ready for 2nd child

Four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is getting ready to become a father for the second time.

He made the announcement on his Web site Thursday, then confirmed it at Daytona 500 media day. Gordon says his wife, Ingrid, is 12 weeks pregnant. Their first child, Ella, will be 3 in June.

Gordon joins a growing list of NASCAR drivers expecting children this season. Four-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and his wife are expecting their first child in July.
