NASCAR's Hamlin tears ACL playing hoops

Denny Hamlin has a torn knee ligament and won't have surgery to repair it until after the upcoming NASCAR season.

Hamlin says he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee playing basketball on Friday. The injury was first reported by ESPN.com after Hamlin pulled out of a skills competition for NASCAR drivers hosted by the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.

Hamlin had surgery in December on his right knee, and the new injury is unrelated.

Hamlin tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Friday.

Although he will need surgery, Hamlin plans to postpone it until after the 2010 season.

Two shot leaving a parking lot at RDU

Police at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are searching for a man who shot two people Monday night as they were leaving an airport parking lot, authorities sat.

The shooting victims, whose identities have not been reported, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Mindy Hamlin, an RDU spokeswoman, said this morning.

"It appeared to be a pellet gun based on the injuries," Hamlin said.
