Team's assist expected to help rev interest in annual Stocks for Tots event

Stocks for Tots, in its 25th season of bringing drivers, crew chiefs, and other members of the racing community together with fans for worthy causes, is going Truck series racing.

Driver Tayler Malsam and his team have donated sponsorship on their truck for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 20. Don Miller, chairman of the Stocks for Tots Foundation, likes the timing with the organization’s big annual event scheduled soon after, on Dec. 8, in Mooresville, N.C.

“Having Stocks for Tots featured on Tayler's truck this year will bring a great deal of awareness to our cause,” Miller said. “Our foundation could not be more appreciative.”

Racing stars appear at benefit today to collect toys

Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Rick Mears and NASCAR driver Ryan Newman head the slate of about 50 racing greats signing autographs at a holiday benefit event.

Ray Evernham, Ned Jarrett, and Sam Hornish Jr. are among the other motorsports notables who will sign for fans at Tuesday's event in Mooresville.

Proceeds from the 21st annual Stocks for Tots benefit go to helping prevent child abuse and helping parents in Iredell County.

Stocks for Tots roster growing

The roster of racing celebrities is growing as the popular Stocks for Tots event approaches in Mooresville, N.C.

In its 25th season, the annual event Dec. 7 at the Charles Mack Citizen Center brings drivers, crew chiefs, and other members of the racing community together with fans for worthy causes.

The Iredell County SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) organization will be this year's beneficiary.

Firefighters in Durham set Toys-4-Rides

The Durham Fire Department will conduct its 2008 Toys-4-Rides Campaign by giving free rides on their fire engines in exchange for new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. The rides will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 at Fire Station No. 1, 139 E. Morgan St., or Fire Station No. 2, 1001 Ninth St. Toys for all ages of children are needed. Donations can also be taken to any Durham fire station during business hour until Dec. 21.

The collected toys will be distributed to children in need throughout Durham County during December. The campaign is held in conjunction with the U.S. Marine's Toys-4-Tots Program.
