Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love has been scheduled for surgery on his broken left hand.
Love will have the operation in New York today to repair a fracture in the fourth metacarpal bone in his shooting hand. The second-year player was injured on a rebound Friday during an exhibition at Chicago.
The Timberwolves announced the news Monday. He's expected to be out at least six weeks.
Love averaged 11.1 points and 9.1 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game last season. He led the NBA in offensive rebounding percentage, the first rookie in 24 years to do so since Hakeem Olajuwon.
Pistons donate shoes: The Detroit Pistons are teaming up with charity to donate 1,000 pairs of new shoes and socks to kids.
The team is scheduled to be on hand Tuesday to help distribute the shoes at a Detroit event. It's part of the NBA Cares "Week of Service," for which teams are giving a day of community service.
Nelson leaves Warriors for family emergency: Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson has left the team for a family emergency and will miss tonight's exhibition game against the Los Angeles Lakers in Ontario.

Trail Blazers 98, Nuggets 96: Greg Oden had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Portland erased a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat visiting Denver in an exhibition game.
Lakers 114, Clippers 108: Andrew Bynum overcame a cold-shooting start, scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds to help the Lakers overcome a 15-point deficit and beat the Clippers in Los Angeles.
Reserve Craig Smith had 26 points and seven rebounds for the Clippers.
