Hornets' Paul exits early with ankle injury

New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul left Friday's game against Portland after falling awkwardly on his left ankle late in the third quarter.

Paul drove to the basket and was met by Trail Blazers center Joel Przybilla. The guard went up for a jump-pass and came down on Przybilla's foot.

He spent several moments on the floor before being helped to the locker room with the aid of teammates and trainers. He finished the game with eight assists and just three points on 1-of-8 shooting.

Hornets F West sprains ankle

New Orleans forward David West suffered a left ankle sprain in Friday's 96-94 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

West sustained the injury in the second quarter and did not return. He finished with 14 points in a little under 12 minutes.

The Hornets play again Saturday, at Denver, but West's status for that game is not known. Entering Friday's contest, West was averaging 17.8 points and 7.7 rebounds a game.

Chris Paul finished with 24 points and 10 assists as the Hornets beat the Clippers for a 10th straight time with a 112-84 rout at the Staples Center.

Paul left the game late in the second quarter with a sprained left ankle, but started the second half. With the decision in hand, he wasn't needed down the stretch.

"That was the hardest I've seen us play in awhile," said Hornets coach Byron Scott. "I knew it would happen sooner or later and tonight it did."

Hornets' Paul out indefinitely with knee injury

Hornets' All-Star point guard Chris Paul is out indefinitely with a left knee injury that will likely require surgery.

An MRI revealed more damage to the knee than the initial diagnosis of a bruise, Hornets coach Jeff Bower said on Monday. The coach refused, however, to confirm reports that Paul had a meniscus tear and would miss at least a month.

"We're in fact-finding stages right now, gathering as much information as possible for decisions to be made to take the next steps," Bower said. "It is likely there will be a surgical solution for it. We don't have a timetable (for Paul's return) right now, nor do we know a surgical procedure right now."

Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets hope to win their sixth straight game in the Big Easy Tuesday when they welcome the Jekyll and Hyde Sacramento Kings to town.

The Hornets won their fifth straight contest at New Orleans Arena on Friday when Devin Brown scored 19 points and Emeka Okafor added 17 points and 13 rebounds, as the Hornets claimed a 98-89 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

David West finished with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Paul returned to the lineup after missing eight games with a sprained left ankle and chipped in 16 points, a game-high 15 assists and eight steals for the Hornets.
