The Minnesota Timberwolves hope the possible return of Al Jefferson will help them put an end to a 10-game losing streak tonight, as they welcome the Houston Rockets to the Target Center.
Minnesota hasn't reached the win column since a 95-93 victory over New Jersey in its season opener back on October 28. Now it's in the midst of the longest losing run since a 13-game slide from last November 29 - December 23. The winless trend continued with a 97-87 setback at Memphis on Saturday, as Corey Brewer scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the T'Wolves.
"We came out with a lot of intensity and played pretty good, but the third quarter we had a letdown," said Brewer. "It's been that way all season. We have to learn to pick it up."
Ryan Gomes and Ryan Hollins both had 15 points, while Ramon Sessions added 13 and eight assists for Minnesota, which hopes to get Jefferson back after he missed the past two games following the death of his grandmother. Jefferson is probable for tonight and is posting 15.1 points and 6.1 boards per game.
Houston will kick off a brief two-game road trip against Minnesota and Atlanta, and has alternated wins and losses over the past eight games.
In Tuesday's 111-105 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Carl Landry had a career-high 27 points on 13-of-18 shooting in Boston. Trevor Ariza finished with 19 points and nine rebounds and Aaron Brooks chipped in 16 points and a career-high 13 assists in defeat.
"We need to close the games a little bit better. They hit a few shots at the end that were closer. They went to the line a lot. We couldn't execute on offense in the last minutes. We just got to know how to close the games a little better," said Rockets forward Luis Scola, who registered 12 points.
The Rockets took all four meetings with Minnesota last season and have won eight straight in the series.
Houston has won three in a row at the Target Center.
