Another national championship, another visit to the North Carolina Legislature for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils.
The General Assembly celebrated Duke's latest NCAA title on Tuesday with the House and Senate unanimously passing a resolution to honor the Blue Devils for capturing their fifth championship.
Athletic Director Kevin White, coach Mike Krzyzewski and his three assistant coaches were among those honored in person.
Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State have combined for 10 national titles since 1982. The Blue Devils won their fifth title last month by beating Wisconsin 68-63 in Indianapolis.
Never miss a local story.
Sen. Dan Blue says "there's no doubt about who dominates college basketball."
The Wake County Democrat says "I think (the state of) North Carolina can lay claim to doing that."
Blue, along with Durham Democratic Sens. Floyd B. McKissick Jr. and Mike Woodard, were the primary sponsors of the resolution, which recognized the Blue Devils for their title and for placing five players on the Atlantic Coast Conference's all-academic team, as well as Krzyzewski for becoming the first Division I men's coach to reach 1,000 career wins in January.
The legislature also celebrated Duke after its last title in 2010.
In past years, other teams honored in person by lawmakers included the University of North Carolina men's basketball team and the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes.
