The N.C. State men’s basketball team’s Dec. 20 game against West Virginia in New York will be at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
The Wolfpack and the Mountaineers will face each other in the Gotham Classic.
The game will be N.C. State’s second appearance within three years at Madison Square Garden. The Pack defeated Connecticut at the historic arena during 2012.
The December game in New York will be the 17th meeting between N.C. State and West Virginia, and the first since 2006.
N.C. State also will appear on ESPN2 on Dec. 17 against Tennessee at PNC Arena. The Wolfpack’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge contest at Purdue is slated for either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Duke: The Blue Devils have been picked to finish fourth in the Coastal Division in a vote of the 12 ACC coaches. The ACC has been divided into six-team Atlantic and Coastal divisions for the 2014 season.
Notre Dame, the reigning NCAA champion, was tabbed as the preseason favorite by the coaches with six first-place votes. Virginia finished second with three votes, followed by North Carolina and Louisville.
The Irish headline the Coastal Division and Louisville is atop the Atlantic Division. Virginia and North Carolina are at Nos. 2 and 3 in the Coastal, with Duke coming in at No. 4 with 37 points.
Duke: Four Blue Devils have received Academic Honor Roll distinction from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for the 2013-14 academic year, as announced by the organization Tuesday. The four selections led all ACC institutions.
Recent graduates Molly Quirke, Tara Stokes and Taylor Virden and rising senior Erin Tenneson were among the 233 Division I student-athletes from 79 institutions to be honored on this year’s list. Student-athletes were nominated by their schools and achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.
East Carolina: The Pirates’ volleyball team was picked to finish in 11th place in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll.
Southern Methodist was picked as the preseason favorite and South Florida’s Erin Fairs earned preseason player of the year honors.
The Pirates will kick off the season with the East Carolina Invitational beginning Sept. 5 against Tennessee Tech at 1 p.m.
