The meat of N.C. State’s nonconference basketball schedule will take place in the “Battle 4 Atlantis” tournament in the Bahamas during the week of Thanksgiving.
The Wolfpack will open the eight-team tournament with Arizona, likely a preseason top 5 team, on Nov. 22. The only other “Power 5” conference opponent set on N.C. State’s schedule is Penn State (Nov. 29 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge).
The “Battle 4 Atlantis” bracket, released on Monday, has N.C. State in the bottom half with Arizona, SMU and Northern Iowa. Villanova, Purdue, Western Kentucky and Tennessee are the four teams in the top half.
With an upset of Arizona, N.C. State would face the winner of SMU-Northern Iowa on Nov. 23. The third game, scheduled for Nov. 24, would depend on how the rest of the bracket shakes out but the Wolfpack would face one of the four teams from the top half of the bracket.
N.C. State has yet to release the nonconference portion of its schedule for coach Kevin Keatts’ first season. VMI has announced it will open the season in Raleigh, in Keatts’ first game on the Wolfpack bench, on Nov. 10. The ACC isn’t expected to release the full schedule until next month.
