We've known for a long while now that North Carolina will be playing in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas in late November. Now we know who the Tar Heels will be playing, and who they could play.
The tournament bracket has been set, and UNC will open the Battle 4 Atlantis against Butler on Nov. 26 at noon. That's the first game of the tournament, and it will be broadcast on ESPN2.
Win or lose, the Tar Heels in their second tournament game will either play UCLA or Oklahoma. The teams in the other half of the bracket: Wisconsin, UAB, Florida and Georgetown. UNC in its final game in the Bahamas will play one of those four teams.
This is a loaded field. UNC should be ranked in the top 10 entering the season, and could be ranked among the top 5. Wisconsin and Florida are both in the top 10 of Gary Parrish's early top 25 (and 1), and Oklahoma is in the top 20.
UNC and Butler do have exotic-location tournament history. They played in 2012 in the Maui Invitational, and you might remember Butler led that game by a wide margin until the Tar Heels made it respectable late. Butler won 82-71.
One thing I remember about that game is how overwhelmed Marcus Paige seemed. He was a freshman then, playing in one of his first big games. He has come a ways since.
