UNC among six finalists for top 2015 prospect Skal Labissiere

The Tar Heels are targeting Skal Labissiere, a 6-foot-10 center from Memphis, TN, who is considering five other schools and the thought of playing overseas. UNC's men's basketball team has yet to secure a commitment from anyone in the class of 2015.

Skal Labissiere, a 6-foot-10 center from Memphis, Tenn., who is considered one of the top prospects in the class of 2015, has North Carolina among the final schools he is considering.

Labissiere announced his six finalists in a post on Twitter on Tuesday night. In addition to UNC, he's also considering Baylor, Georgetown, Kentucky, Memphis and Tennessee.

UNC has yet to secure a commitment from anyone in the class of 2015. The Tar Heels are in the mix for several top prospects, including Ivan Rabb, a power forward from California who some consider the best prospect in the class, and Stephen Zimmerman, a highly-regarded center from Las Vegas.

Labissiere is considered a five-star prospect by all the recruiting sites, and he's the No. 11 prospect in his class, according to 247Sports.com's composite ranking. Most of the recruiting experts seem to think UNC is kind of a longshot in Labissiere’s recruitment.

Also worth noting: Labissiere, a native of Haiti, has a wild back story, one that Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com has written about, and well. The story: Labissiere came to the United States after surviving the earthquake that ravaged Haiti, and buried him under his house.

Labissiere told Parrish recently that he might consider skipping college and playing overseas.
