Duke coach McCallie inducted into Maine basketball hall of fame

Duke women’s basketball coach Joanne P. McCallie was inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Thursday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine.
McCallie is a part of the inaugural Hall of Fame class that featured 16 players, four coaches, one official and one contributor.
St. Augustine’s: The Falcons’ athletic department accepted and completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge at the George Williams Athletic Complex Friday. The department was challenged by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association conference office.
The Ice Bucket Challenge was held to raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
The activity involves dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head to promote attention to ALS. In addition to the athletic staff, student-athletes from several sports and other campus staff members took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
East Carolina: Carl Evans has been named associate athletics director for development at East Carolina, according to Pirate Club Executive Director J. Batt.
Evans will lead the Pirate Club Annual Fund, work closely with the Pitt County Pirate Club chapter and have direct responsibilities involved with the chapter representative system among other duties.
