N.C. State sophomore Lucas Kozeniesky is representing the U.S. National Junior Rifle Team in Granada, Spain, training for the 50-meter three position junior rifle event set to begin on Friday.
Last season, he led N.C. State in air rifle and smallbore average. He fired the Wolfpack’s highest score in smallbore during the 2013-14 season with a 583. Kozeniesky also garnered All-South Eastern Air Rifle Conference honors after an impressive showing at the championships.
After returning from the World Championships, Kozeniesky is poised to lead the 2014-15 rifle squad which will look to win its fourth consecutive SEARC championship.
North Carolina: Former Tar Heels basketball star LaToya Pringle Sanders was named to the final 12-player roster for Turkey and will compete for the FIBA World Championship beginning Sept. 27.
This is the first time she will represent Turkey in a FIBA competition.
East Carolina: Junior Josh Hawkins has been named the Jim Thorpe Defensive Back-of-the-Week following his two-interception game at then-No. 17 Virginia Tech the Oklahoma Sport Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
Hawkins, who ranks second nationally with three interceptions, has five for his career to go along with 10 career pass breakups.
