Cole powers N.C. Central past McNeese State
The N.C. Central men’s basketball team defeated McNeese State 74-66 behind a game-high 21-point performance from Patrick Cole and a joint game-high six assists from Dajuan Graf on Saturday at Burton Coliseum.
The lead went back and forth between both sides in the first half, but NCCU (7-5) went to the half trailing by one to McNeese (3-6), 36-35. Although the Eagles trailed at the break, NCCU was able to outscore the Cowboys in the second half to pick up its first win of the year after being behind at the intermission.
Cole went over 20 points for the sixth time this year, and Del’vin Dickerson was close to a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points. Dajuan Graf pushed out a joint game-high six assists along with 12 points to help the Eagles as well.
Jarren Greenwood led the Cowboys with 15 points and six assists, and Stephen Ugochukwu collected a game-high 11 rebounds with eight points.
The Eagles have some time off before returning to the hardwood on Dec. 28 against Truett McConnell at home at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Campbell: The Camels will continue their three-game pre-Christmas homestand at 7 p.m. Monday against Johnson & Wales. The Camels (5-5) are coming off a 96-75 loss Wednesday to UNCW, while the Wildcats (3-7) lost 84-78 Friday at Montreat.
St. Augustine’s: On Saturday, Anthony Gaskins scored 12 points and Anthony Cadogan added a season-high 10 points for the Falcons in a 74-61 CIAA loss to Chowan at the Helms Center.
N.C. State: The Wolfpack (9-3) dropped a difficult road contest at Tulane (6-4) Saturday, falling 63-58 at Devlin Fieldhouse. N.C. State closes out nonconference play at South Alabama on Monday. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
Elon: The Phoenix had four players score in double figures to help the team snap a three-game losing skid with a 79-51 victory at East Tennessee State on Saturday.
ECU: The Pirates captured their first road win of the season Saturday, defeating Richmond 71-60 in a nonconference contest. It was the first meeting between the former Colonial Athletic Association rivals since 2001.
Shaw: The Bears will participate in the Palm Beach Atlantic Holiday Hoops Classic today and Monday in West Palm Beach, Fla. hosted by the Sailfish for two non-conference matchups. All games will be played at Rubin Arena inside the Palm Beach Atlantic Greene Complex.
Wake Forest: The Demon Deacons will host Samford Sunday inside the LJVM Coliseum. The team is looking to bounce back after it dropped its first home contest of the season, falling to Radford, 68-60, on Saturday.
