Barton College senior Mike McMahon has been honored as the Conference Carolinas Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
McMahon set an NCAA Division I-II record for career digs in the 25-point rally scoring era during a tri-match on Saturday. The Dana Point, Calif., resident now has 1,028 digs for his career, surpassing the previous record of 1,013 held by Javier Caceres of Pacific.
He averaged 3.92 digs per set for the week, raising his season average to 3.13, third-best in the country. His averages might have been even higher, but he played setter during the tri-match so that a fellow senior could start at libero in his final home appearance. McMahon produced 67 assists in the two matches, including 44 against Coker.
