Tar Heels win ACC field hockey title
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Third-ranked North Carolina claimed the 2015 ACC Field Hockey Championship afternoon with a 2-1 overtime victory on Sunday against top-ranked and top-seeded Syracuse, which came into the game undefeated. It was UNC’s 19th ACC title, its first since 2012.
The Tar Heels, seeded third in the tournament, improved to 18-2 overall, while Syracuse fell to 17-1.
“I’m very, very happy for the team, and to represent the University of North Carolina with another championship,” said UNC coach Karen Shelton, at the helm for all 19 titles. “It was a great game by two excellent teams. What a hard-fought game and a gritty performance by our team, and their team as well. Both teams had chances to win and we got the one that counted.
NCSU: The team beat Wingate 72-37 in an exhibition.
Duke: The team beat Clemson 3-0.
NCSU: The team lost 3-1 at Syracuse.
UNC: The team beat Boston College 3-2.
NCCU:The team lost 3-1 to Bethune-Cookman.
