Zack Greer scored four goals and Matt Danowski added two Friday as the top-seeded Duke men's lacrosse team defeated fourth-seeded North Carolina 17-6 in the semifinals of the ACC tournament in Charlottesville, Va.

Tim Kaiser and Cryder DiPietro each scored a pair of goals for UNC (8-5).

The Blue Devils (14-1) advance to Sunday's title game against Virginia, which beat Maryland 11-8.

ACC TOURNAMENT

MARYLAND 6, UNC 4: Top-seeded Maryland (15-1) scored the first six goals and held on to defeat fifth-seeded North Carolina in a semifinal at Charlottesville, Va.

Megan Bosica, Kristen Carr, Erica LaGrow and Corey Donohoe each scored for the Heels (12-6).

VIRGINIA 10, DUKE 9: Megan O'Malley scored her third goal of the game with 4:48 left as the host Cavaliers (13-3) rallied from six goals down in the semifinals. Sarah Bullard scored three goals to lead Duke (10-7).

TRACK AND FIELD

UNC'S WHITE WINS DISCUS: North Carolina's Jocelyn White won the discus crown at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. White's toss of 179 feet, 1 inch beat Purdue's Astin Steward by almost 10 feet (169-4).

St. Augustine's Joe Kindred won the men's long jump with a leap of 25-4 1/2.

NOTES

LSU APPROVES CONTRACTS: LSU's new basketball coach Trent Johnson will make at least $1.2 million a year and athletic director Joe Alleva will earn at least $550,000 in contracts approved Friday by the governing board.

BRIEFLY: Brigham Young guard Lee Cummard is entering the NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent.

* Pittsburgh forward Sam Young will return for his senior year.
