Recap: NC State vs. Duke

Thaddeus Lewis threw for a career-best five touchdowns, as the Duke Blue Devils pulled away for a 49-28 victory over the NC State Wolfpack in ACC action at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Lewis completed an efficient 40-of-50 tosses for 459 yards and added a rushing touchdown to his career day, as Duke (3-3, 1-1 ACC) snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Wolfpack. Conner Vernon led the team with 10 catches that went for 86 yards and a score, while Donovan Varner hauled in seven passes for 154 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Russell Wilson paced NC State (3-3, 0-2) with 172 yards and a score through the air and 58 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Toney Baker also got into the mix with 73 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

Duke senior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis passed for two touchdowns in the Blue Devils' 34-26 loss to No. 6 Virginia Tech on Saturday. He has 54 career touchdown passes and is two shy of breaking the school record of 55 held by Ben Bennett. Entering the game, the Hokies had given up one touchdown pass this season. Lewis, who completed 22 of 40 pass attempts for 359 yards, finished with touchdown passes of 48 and 4 yards. Lewis spread the ball around to nine receivers, providing Duke an unpredictable option on offense.

Virginia Tech shuts out Duke, 36-0

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 14 Virginia Tech Hokies dished out plenty of bruises while shutting out the Duke Blue Devils 36-0 in the ACC game at Lane Stadium on Saturday.

The Hokies (3-0, 2-0) have outscored Duke 122-17, and shut them out the past two seasons, in their three ACC meetings.

The Hokies beat down on the Devils by dominating the airspace above Worsham Field with 316 passing yards and pressuring Duke quarterbacks Thaddeus Lewis and Marcus Jones to the tune of eight sacks.

Duke's senior quarterback deserves some sleep after a career-best performance Saturday in leading the Blue Devils to a 49-28 victory over N.C. State at Carter-Finley Stadium.

After falling 44-16 to No. 22 Kansas on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kan., Duke (1-2) returns home with some of the same problems that have plagued the team from the start of the season.

The Blue Devils, with senior Re'quan Boyette hampered by an ankle injury, rushed 33 times for 95 yards. Senior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 184 yards and two interceptions. He ran for a 21-yard touchdown but was sacked four times.
