Duke coach David Cutcliffe has divided his football team and coaching staff as equally as possible, in hopes of creating a competitive Blue-White spring game.

The game, consisting of four 10-minute quarters, will begin with a kickoff. Then referees will likely spot the ball at the 25-yard line on each remaining possession.

On the sidelines, or maybe standing in the end zone, he said.

WHAT TO WATCH

* Check out how quarterback Thaddeus Lewis and the Blue Devils are adapting to David Cutcliffe's faster-paced, no-huddle offense.

* While a strong proponent of the passing game, Cutcliffe wants to balance the offense with a strong rushing attack, which produced a paltry 64 yards per outing in the fall.

* See if the Blue Devils look faster and swarm to the ball more on defense. The Duke team has lost collective 400 pounds and shed considerable body fat since January.

* Will a place kicker with range and accuracy surface?

* Cutcliffe says Duke has enough "playmakers." Who are they, and will they make big plays?

KEY PLAYERS

Thaddeus Lewis, who completed about 55 percent of his passes for 2,430 yards and 21 touchdowns during the fall, will quarterback the White team.

Fred Roland and Rob Schirmann are leaders in the offensive line while the defense features linebacker Vincent Rey, who led the Blue Devils with 111 tackles.

For the Blue team, second-team All-ACC wide receiver Eron Riley is a big threat. In the offseason, he has dropped his body fat from about 10 percent to the 6-plus range. Also lining up for the Blue team is running back Re'quan Boyette, who is quicker and faster, nose guard Vince Oghobaase and linebacker Michael Tauiliili.

Junior Blue Devil Club Day registration begins at 9 a.m. (New members can join for $20).

After the Blue Devil Walk at 10:30 a.m., additional pregame entertainment will start at 11 a.m. on the concourse. It will include music by the Dune Dogs, barbecue lunches for $5, face painting, raffle drawings and inflatable games.
