East Carolina football coach Skip Holtz has suspended freshman linebacker Max Joyner for breaking a team rule.
In announcing the suspension Thursday, Holtz would not specify what Joyner did, saying only that the suspension was indefinite and would be re-evaluated later.
Joyner signed with the Pirates in February and enrolled at the school in June. The Greenville native played on three state championship teams at Rose High School, including a seven-interception season as a junior.
MORE FOOTBALLOU INTERNET STORY A HOAX: The father of an Oklahoma quarterback says he plans legal action against a Nebraska fan who posted a bogus story on an Internet message board claiming two Sooners had been arrested on cocaine distribution charges.
James W. Conradt, a Nebraska football fan living in Austin, Texas, said he did not mean to hurt Oklahoma quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Landry Jones with his Internet hoax, according to a story posted Wednesday on The Oklahoman Web site.
"I want to express my deepest apologies to the families," Conradt said Wednesday night after his story was reported as fact by at least two Texas radio stations. "That's the thing I'm regretful about. I didn't want to hurt anyone."
Landry's father, Kevin Jones, indicated Conradt's apology may not be enough.
"I'm going to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law," Jones said. "I've got deep enough pockets to do it."

BASKETBALLFORMER GATORS PLAYER CHARGED WITH RAPE: Teddy Dupay, who played on Florida's runner-up team in the 2000 NCAA Tournament, was charged with beating and raping a woman last month at a Utah ski resort.
Dupay acknowledged in court documents that he and the woman got "a little rough," but he denied rape. The woman said she and Dupay had a two-year relationship, although it was not clear whether they were still a couple when police were called to a Deer Valley lodge June 19.
He is to be arraigned Monday.
