Texas Tech makes Tuberville next head coach
Texas Tech has chosen former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville as its next head football coach, the school announced Saturday.
The school will hold a press conference Sunday at 3 p.m. (et) in Lubbock to introduce Tuberville, who replaces Mike Leach.
Leach was fired with cause December 30 in the wake of allegations regarding the treatment of receiver Adam James, who had a concussion. The school elevated defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill to interim head coach for Texas Tech's Alamo Bowl win over Michigan State on January 2 but now turns the program over to Tuberville.

Auburn (2-2) vs. North Carolina State (3-0)
GAME NOTES: The Auburn Tigers and North Carolina State Wolfpack will collide this evening as part of the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Auburn is a member of the SEC, and teams from that power conference aren't supposed to lose to the likes of Missouri State and Central Florida, especially by double figures. But that is what has happened to the Tigers, who limped into yesterday's meeting with IUPUI sporting a 1-2 record. Fortunately, Auburn was able to post an 80-65 victory in that contest and will be able to build some confidence if it can find a way to defeat the Wolfpack tonight.
Speaking of NC State, it carried a 2-0 record into yesterday's meeting with Austin Peay. The Wolfpack, who hope to surprise some of the projected powerhouses in the ACC this season, knocked off the Governors by a 66-59 final thanks to a solid defensive showing. Sidney Lowe is the head coach at NC State, and he stresses sound play at both ends of the floor.

Auburn (5-4) at Florida State (8-2)
GAME NOTES: The Auburn Tigers of the SEC and the Florida State Seminoles of the ACC will collide this evening in Tallahassee.
Auburn has been idle since December 7th when it recorded a thrilling 68-67 victory over Virginia. The Tigers have won three of their last four outings and own a 5-4 overall record. They have suffered losses to the likes of Missouri State and UCF by double figures, so this is far from a powerhouse squad, but the level of play has certainly elevated in recent weeks.
Florida State has posted back-to-back victories to move to 8-2 overall. The most recent outing occurred just two days ago, as the Seminoles knocked off Georgia State in a 62-55 final. The only two losses to date have come against Florida and Ohio State, a pair of tough non-conference opponents.
