At N.C. State's Red-White spring game, the first and second quarters will be just like a game, with the clock stopping.
But the clock will run continuously in the second half, as N.C. State coach Tom O'Brien put it, "Because we don't have enough [healthy] bodies to last the whole game."
There won't be any kickoffs, but O'Brien said extra points will be kicked, "If we're able to score." There also will be field-goal attempts.
WHAT TO WATCH* The quarterbacks. Keep an eye on the guy who gets the most time with the offensive line regulars such as tackles Julian Williams (No. 73) and Jeraill McCuller (No. 50), and guard Curtis Crouch (No. 76). He's the one the staff is taking the longest look at and next season's potential starter.
SAID O'BRIEN: "That's one of the things you want to play a game situation, not a scrimmage -- when they're out there by themselves and have to make some decisions on the run. That's one of the good things you get out of a spring game."
Russell Wilson is the quarterback who has been the talk of spring drills. He's No. 16, the little guy at 5 feet 11 and 191 pounds. Check out the arm. Mike Glennon might be on the sideline or in the stands and is hard to miss -- but he can't play just yet. The highly touted quarterback from Virginia, an incoming freshman, is 6-6 and has a shock of red hair.
* The tailbacks. Everyone is injured except Jamelle Eugene, whom O'Brien likes to compare to the Energizer Bunny. Andre Brown (foot), Toney Baker (knee) and Curtis Underwood (ankle) are out.
