College notes: Tribe trips Wolfpack in soccer

Claire Zimmeck scored four minutes into the second overtime as William & Mary (4-3-1) topped visiting N.C. State 2-1 in women's soccer on Friday, handing the Pack its first loss of the season.

N.C. State (7-1) got its goal from Lindsay Vera in the 36th minute.

WAKE FOREST 3, UNC-GREENSBORO 0: Wake Forest (7-1) recorded its third straight shutout, defeating UNCG (5-4).

DUKE 2, FORDHAM 0: KayAnne Gummersall and Cody Newman scored goals as the ninth-ranked Blue Devils (7-1) blanked Fordham (3-2-1).

MEN'S SOCCER

VIRGINIA 5, N.C. STATE 0: Tony Tchani scored a pair of goals to lead host Virginia (3-3, 1-0 ACC) past N.C. State (1-4-1, 0-2).

WOMEN'S GOLF

CAMELS EIGHTH: Campbell shot an 8-over 300 in the second round and moved up to eighth place in the three-round Dick McGuire Invitational at Albuquerque, N.M.

CROSS COUNTRY

MEREDITH WINS PACERS 5K: Joyce McLeod led a sweep of the top four spot by Meredith runners as the Avenging Angels dominated the Peace Pacers 5K at WakeMed Soccer Park.

McLeod won the event in 23 minutes, 31 seconds.

NOTE

DAVIDSON IN WOODEN BASKETBALL EVENT: Davidson will take on Purdue in the opening round of the annual Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis. Southern Illinois will play Saint Mary's of California in the second matchup of the Dec. 20 doubleheader at Conseco Fieldhouse.
