Spartans stun Pack in baseball

The UNC-Greensboro baseball team rallied to tie the score with two runs in the ninth inning before beating visiting N.C. State 8-7 in 10 innings on Wednesday.

Matt Gaski ripped a shot to right field in the bottom of the 10th, scoring Ray Quinones with the winning run for UNCG (25-15), which recorded its first win over an ACC team since beating Duke 6-0 last April.

N.C. State (27-13) took a 7-5 lead in the top of the ninth on a Russell Wilson home run, but the Spartans rallied in their half of the ninth with a one-out, two-run single by Tim Carrier to tie the score and force extra innings.

DUKE 8, DAVIDSON 7: Jake Lemmerman drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the top of the ninth for the visiting Blue Devils (29-13-1), who overcame a 7-0 deficit.

Lemmerman's go-ahead single drove in Tom Luciano from third base after he drew a leadoff walk to start the inning before stealing second and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan McCurdy.

NORTH CAROLINA 10, HIGH POINT 5: Tim Federowicz drove in a game-high three runs, and the Tar Heels (36-7) extended their longest winning streak since 2002 to 11 games with the victory.

WAKE FOREST 8, COASTAL CAROLINA 7: Allan Dykstra hit his 12th home run of the season, and the visiting Demon Deacons (16-25) held off a ninth-inning rally to snap the 10-game winning streak of the Chanticleers (34-8).

EAST CAROLINA 9, CAMPBELL 3: Brad Mincey threw six strong innings in his first career start, and Seth Simmons shut the door, fanning a career-high five batters, to lift the visiting Pirates (29-13) past the Camels (17-25).

UNCW 14, N.C. CENTRAL 8: The visiting Eagles (6-26) recorded their best offensive output against a Division I opponent this season, but it wasn't enough against the Seahawks (30-9-1).

SOFTBALL

N.C. STATE 9-7, COASTAL CAROLINA 0-2: Shanna Smith and Kristine Bechtholdt homered in the first game, and the host Wolfpack (29-23) rolled to a doubleheader sweep of the Chanticleers (18-35).

NORTH CAROLINA 4-2, WINTHROP 3-0: Danielle Spaulding picked up a save in the first game before earning her 14th win of the year in the second, and the Tar Heels (47-8-1) earned the sweep.

CAMPBELL 6-12, EAST CAROLINA 3-4: The visiting Camels (35-21) rolled to the doubleheader sweep against the Pirates (30-25), their first sweep over East Carolina in more than 10 years.
