Wolfpack routs No. 3 Seminoles

Matt Payne led a 14-hit attack with three hits and three RBIs, and Eric Surkamp and two relievers combined on a three-hitter to lead the 18th-ranked N.C. State baseball team past third-ranked Florida State 12-2 on Thursday at Tallahassee, Fla.

The Wolfpack (37-16, 18-9 ACC) limited Florida State to a season-low three hits and handed the Seminoles (44-9, 22-6) their most lopsided defeat of the season.

DUKE 4, VIRGINIA TECH 2: Andrew Wolcott held host Virginia Tech to one run over six innings before allowing relievers Michael Ness and Alex Hassan to close out the final three innings.

The Devils (36-17-1, 9-17-1 ACC) need to win the two final games against the Hokies (22-31, 5-23) to secure a spot in the ACC tournament field.

WAKE FOREST 10, BOSTON COLLEGE 3: Andy Goff finished 3-for-4, including his second homer of the season, as the visiting Deacons clinched a berth in next week's ACC tournament.

Mike Murray drove in three runs for Wake (23-28, 12-15 ACC), going 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

EAST CAROLINA 8, MEMPHIS 1: Seth Maness struck out eight batters and gave up one run in 8 2/3 innings as the visiting Pirates (38-16, 12-10 Conference USA) took the first game of a three-game series against Memphis (16-37, 4-17).

MOUNT OLIVE 11, ERSKINE 3: Josh Harrison, Rich Racobaldo and Jason Sherrer drove in three runs each as No. 1 seed Mount Olive beat No. 6 seed Erskine in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional at Mount Olive. The Trojans (50-5) play at 3 p.m. today against North Georgia.
