Seminoles outpitch Wolfpack

Buster Posey did it all for Florida State's baseball team on Friday night.

The Seminoles' catcher tripled in the eighth and scored the game's only run, then took the mound in the ninth to get N.C. State in order and preserve the Noles' 1-0 victory over the Pack.

Fourth-ranked FSU (45-9, 23-6 ACC) evened the three-game series at one win apiece. Visiting N.C. State (37-17, 18-10) won the opener of the series 12-2.

In the eighth inning on Friday, Posey led off with a triple to right field against Wolfpack reliever Drew Taylor (3-3). Posey scored when the next batter, Jack Rye, hit a sacrifice fly to center field.

Kyle Rutter came on for the Pack and struck out the next two batters.

Posey moved from behind the plate to the mound in the top of the ninth and struck out two of the three batters he faced to pick up in sixth save. He had not given up an earned run this season.

The game was a pitcher's duel from the beginning, with Pack starter Clayton Schunick giving up just five hits in six shutout innings, walking two and striking out 10.

Joey Cutler came on in the seventh to get the first two outs and Taylor got the final out of the inning before running into trouble in the eighth.

Dallas Poulk had two of the Pack's three hits in the game.

Florida State starter Elih Villaneuava pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits.

Jimmy Marshall (5-2) got the win for the Noles with one inning of relief.
